MIDWAY REPORT
If the first half of the season is a sign of things to come, then we are in for an electrifying finish. The three majors have produced different winners thus bringing the standings that much closer. All six competitions bar one have a different leader at this stage of the Tour. Sousa, the current Strokers no.1, is determined to go all way for his maiden Order of Merit title, with four top 5 finishes thus far he`s put up the "catch me if you can" sign. This season`s revelation, Paul is determined to forget last season`s performance, the win at the Easter Open has helped him climb to second in the OM standings and cement his first place in the Par 3 King table. The ever consistent Seraf continued where he left off last season with strong finishes in most outings and remains close to the leader. Mike is the dark horse of the leading pack, lying fourth in the OM standings and leading the Challenge Cup series, you just wonder when he`s going to erupt. Chico maintains a five point lead in the Par 5 King, overall performances haven ’t been up to his usual standard but the next six months should bring some surprises. The Moegoe of the Year title, could have an exciting twist, the current bottom placed players have shown signs of something good about to happen. Watch this space! The next six months will bring some great competition, the Winter Golf Challenge to be held at Fancourt next month, should provide the bonus ingredients for a competitive second half of the season. |

UNPLAYABLE BALL RULE COMES INTO AFFECT
The official ruling for an unplayable ball comes intoplay at the 2011 Winter Golf Challenge. Today, it soundsoddthat we neverappliedthe proper rule since the Club`s existence. Members have being sent an email showing the three diferent options for this penalty.
FANCOURT
Since opening in the early 90's with just 27 Gary Player designed holes, Fancourt’s Outeniquaand Montagu golf courses have matured and developed into two of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in the country. A round on either is a special experience, sculpted and finished as they are, with rare attention to detail and designed with the coastal George winds in mind.

TÓ CLAIMS HIS 11TH MAJOR
Tó added another victory to his sudden return to form in claiming the 2011 WGC on Sunday.Persistent coastal rain dominated day 1 on the picturesque Montague course. Paulo led the field with 33 points closely followed by Tony G and Sousa with 30 and 25 points respectively.
The final round at the Outeniqua layout proved too much for the leading trio. Tó started the day 11 points behind the leader but a red hot round under very diferent weather conditions set up the victory with a total of 61 points.
Chico came in with 33 points to finish second overall on 57 points. Third place went to Tony G with 53 points.
STEVEN MISSES FANCOURT
Steven`s absence at the 2011 Winter Golf Challenge blew his chances of claiming a maiden Order of Merit title. From 6th place in the standings prior to the WGC he has now plumeted to 11th and fighting for the 'Golden Boot'. |

SERAF NEW No.1
Seraf, the current holder of the Order of Merit title, has claimed the no.1 spot. Sousa has dropped to no.2 having held the top rank since it`s incetion eight months ago.
2012 COLLECTION LAUNCHED
The unveiling of the new attire for the coming seasons was revealed at the 2011 WGC. The two diferent shirts, black for the majors and white for the Challenge Cup series, received a positive reaction from the critics. However, the chilly weather conditions at Fancourt didn`t allow the group to show off their new colours.
66 AND COUNTING
Montague and Outeniqua golf courses are lastest entries into our golf courses played list. The quest to achieve 100 courses by 2018 has reached the 66 mark.
Sousa, twice winner of the Challenge Cup series believes he can still win the 2010/2011 series. "It`s not over yet!, there`s still lots of points up for grabs and I need to build up some points towards the Order of Merit" said Sousa.
Sousa is lying in 4th place on 37 points, 15 points behind current leader Mike.
"Chico is the danger man, but don`t write off Mickey, he`s won the Cup before." Sousa said. "I`ve got to be patient to shoot some good, low scores."
Chico is playing well and could be the suprise package, lying in third and hungry to conquer his first CC series.
Mike and Seraf might not take their best games on the 26th, but a top five finish could guarantee their current placings heading to the final round in August.
PAUL WINS AT GERMISTON
Despite being out of the race for the 2010/2011 Challenge Cup series title, Paul`s victory on Sunday has strenghthen his position inthe Order of Merit standings.
A strong showing from Chico (33points) was not enough to prevent Paul`s first Challenge Cup tournament victory of the season.
Mike`s third place at Germiston cemented his place atop the Series table with a 12 points gap over second place Chico and thus making him the outright favourite to conquer his second title in three years. |

"Members should be proud of this achievement, sometimes the feedback bothers me but it comes in one ear and out the other, my interest lies with the Club".
"The quest to reach this milestone will be achieved and members must be prepared to make the effort, around Gauteng there`s not many left so we`ll have to do a bit of travelling". claimed Joe
"Once a month, please that`s why we still strong and kicking!".

On his way to victory, Sousa established a new tournament record of 76 points beating Chico`s mark of 74 in 2003.
Unfortunately, both Gary Player and Lost City layouts were not in the perfect conditions in which we have come to expect over the years but this didn`t deter the guys from giving it all over both days.
Chico finished in second spot on 64 points and the new look Joe ended the last Major of the season in third with 55 points.
On a disapointing note Steven only managed to play round one at the Gary Player CC and Paul could only manage 23 points over both days, making it the lowest Masters score in history.

Having begun life as a nine-hole course, it has has developed into a challenging eighteen-hole golf course. TEE TALK with STEVEN
"Awesome!" said Steven, when asked about his first major victory at last years' Xmas Classic.
"When I received the trophy, that winning feeling sunk in, what a day!, the win makes you just want to try harder and play better" he said.
Having won the first tournament of the season, Steven must be feeling confident to defend his title on the 27th. "I'm very confident at the moment, my game has picked up and I`m trying to concentrate more on the course" said Steven.
"I prefer open courses, where I can recover from any bad hits off the tee, my short game is pretty strong and that's where I capitalise" added Steven.
"I can see myself going all the way this season, I`m hitting the ball better and my game is more consistent"
TONY G CLAIMS 2011 XMAS CLASSIC
Tony G claimed his 6th career major victory, in winning the 2011 Xmas Classic at the challeging Jackal Creek Golf Course on Sunday. A birdie at the par5, 6th set the ball rolling towards a brilliant round of golf.

Second spot went to Mike who finished with 34 points.
Joao took third spot with 28 points.
Jackal Creek comes in at number 70 on our Road to 100 list. The layout is characterized by aesthetically shaped elevation changes that create a number of truly memorable holes all allowing the golfer great visual reward on each shot.
The golf course also offers winding fairways and strategically placed bunkers that demand good ball management to achieve the best results. |

TEE TALK WITH TONY G
With the 2010 Xmas Classic in the bag, G looks set to have a promising 2011/2012 tour.
"This season has started nicely, I`ve had some decent tournaments not forgeting a Major victory", said G
"It was a great feeling to win again, it seemed such a long time since the last Major win".
" A big positive for me was playing alongside Mike, he seems to bring out the best in my game, but I still reckon Seraf`s tip is the way to go, aim for 30 points you can`t go wrong".
Tony G is currently leading the OM standings with 48 points.
"This season is definitely more open, it`s looking healthy". said G "New faces are appearing on top, but I still think the 'usuals' will prevail at the end" he claimed.

SEASONS ECO GE #71
On sunday another course was added to our Road to 100 list. The re-design of the 18 hole Seasons Eco golf course has given priority to upholding environmental standards so as not to compete with or compromise the natural areas, comes in at number 71.
The design plan incorporates islands and pockets of wilderness zones on and around the course with buffer strips of indigenous vegetation between the stands and the fairways.
MIKE WINS AT SEASONS
Having finished a disapointing 12th place in round 1, Mike, the current series champion quickly made amends with a victory on Sunday.

Jan 2012 |
72, IT MUST BE PARYS
The Parys layout has been completely redesigned, bearing no resemblance to the old Parys Golf Club course, and it ensures a challenge on each hole. The everchanging views of the Vaal River, makes playing this course a truly exceptional experience. Parys GE takes the no.72 spot on our Road to 100.
SOUSA REGAINS TOP SPOT
Sousa`s runner up finish at the 2012 Millennium Open helped his cause in retaining the number one rank.
Sousa shared the top spot with Mike last month after being the top ranked player since the begining of the season.
SERAF GETS THE SLAM
That illusive Millennium Open victory came on Sunday for Seraf when his victory made him only the second player in the Club to achieve the Grand Slam.
Until Sunday, Sousa was the only player to have achieved this feat after winning the Masters back in 2010.
Seraf has now eight major titles, one Xmas Classic, Millennium Open, Easter Open, Winter Golf Challenge, Masters and three PGA`s.
SERAF VICTORIOUS IN PARYS
Seraf`s campaign towards his third Order of Merit title is back on track after a scintillating victory at the 2012 Millennium Open.
The outcome of the major was basically determined on the last hole, the par 5 proved to be the decisive hole of the tournament.
Sousa`s birdie putt on the 18th lipped the hole and this proved to be costly, Seraf birdied the final hole to end tied on 33 points and claim his eighth major victory on a countout with Sousa.
A determined Steven fell a couple of points short but managed to pip Tony G on a countout with 31 points to finish in third spot. |
